Due to the ongoing crisis in Israel, CHW has shifted its focus from our previous campaign "Hope on the Horizon" to "Lifeline for Hope" to address the urgent needs at our hospitals. Read more below on the projects that need our support now more than ever:

Trauma, if left unaddressed, can lead to severe and long-lasting psychological, emotional, and physical consequences. Healing is a delicate process that requires attention to both the body’s physical limitations and the mind’s emotional struggles. By addressing mental health needs, CHW will contribute to the overall stability and resilience of Israeli society, providing individuals with a chance for a healthier future.

Shamir Medical Center

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Shamir Medical Center, home to the largest and most sophisticated hyperbaric treatment center worldwide, is a global leader in the research and treatment of PTSD. Their groundbreaking method combines hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) with the expertise of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to treating severe PTSD for 1,000 patients a year.

This innovative treatment was developed for acute, treatment-resistant PTSD and has proven effective in reducing symptoms such as flashbacks, hypervigilance, and irritability, and facilitating a swift return to normal life.

Staff at Shamir Medical Centre have moved patients and treatment into emergency shelters underground.

Due to the current crisis in Israel, there is an urgent need to leverage this unique and effective tool for civilians contending with severe trauma. Supporting the expansion of the PTSD-treatment will enable Shamir Medical Center to provide comprehensive, professional, ongoing treatment tailored to the unique needs of each patient, many survivors of the horrors of October 7. Our support will help heal hundreds of individuals – children and adults – who have endured unimaginable pain, so they can regain hope and rebuild their lives.

Hadassah Hospital

Psychological Rehabilitation Unit

Recognizing the consequences of conflict extend far beyond immediate physical treatment, CHW’s campaign is funding the new Psychological Rehabilitation Unit (PRU) to support victims of trauma through their long-term journey of recovery. Hadassah Hospital’s new PRU will provide a wide range of psychological rehabilitation treatments for conditions ranging from acute stress disorder and PTSD to depression and adaptation to living with disability.

The PRU will include psychologist and social worker offices in a variety of departments to provide patients with easy access to comprehensive, seamless care that addresses their entire human experience; family rooms where patients can reconnect with loved ones, participate in group activities, and rebuild social support networks crucial to their recovery; purposely placed therapeutic healing gardens to provide patients with restorative outdoor spaces that smooth the lines between medical treatment and natural recovery; and a cognitive treatment room with cutting-edge technology to enhance overall mental health recovery for patients facing neurological challenges, trauma, or stress-related disorders.

Hadassah Hospital has begun its crisis management plan, moving patients into underground shelters while Israel is on high alert.

Large Hydrotherapy Pool

To meet the growing demand for advanced rehabilitative services, Hadassah Hospital built the state-of-the-art Gandel Rehabilitation Center (GRC) at Mount Scopus. The rehabilitation center will care for 10,000 patients annually – a 250% increase – offering a host of new, specialized treatments. The 187.5 square meter hydrotherapy pool serves as a large aquatic gym treating 150 patients each day – triple the previous number – through individual and group therapy sessions.

Hydrotherapy is a water-based physical therapy effective in easing pain and promoting strength and movement throughout the rehabilitation process. Water embraces and supports patients with a soothing, low-impact environment for exercise.

Temperature-controlled treatment in the hydrotherapy pools target an array of patients healing from traumatic injuries and suffering from chronic pains, helping to improve motor skills, strength, and agility. Studies have found that hydrotherapy can be a good supplement to physical therapy in the recovery from an injury or surgery. It is a medication-free and non-invasive option for alleviating symptoms such as muscle pain and joint stiffness.
