Learn about Summer Camps Israel, one of CHW’s newest commitments supported through the CHW S.O.S. – Starting Over Safely Summer Campaign. Join guest speaker Shawna Goodman-Sone, founder of Summer Camps Israel, as she shares how the organization is transforming the camp experience by integrating professional emotional-social counsellors into 26 summer camps across Israel.
Through the 2026 S.O.S. Campaign, CHW will help ensure that 5,000 Israeli campers have access to specialized mental health support, with trained counsellors available at every participating camp.

About Shawna Goodman-Sone
Shawna Goodman is an activist, changemaker, professional chef and founder of Summer Camps Israel. Originally from Montreal, she now lives in Ra’nana Israel. Shawna is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Morris and Rosalind Goodman Family Foundation and the Shawna Goodman and Todd Sone Family Foundation.
Shawna’s passions are food, philanthropy, and creating meaningful Jewish connections through informal education. As a young adult living in Montreal, Shawna followed in a family tradition and became active as a young leader at Federation CJA, along with volunteering to support other local organizations. Shawna made Aliyah to Israel with her husband and children in 2015.
Shawna currently serves on the Boards of the Jewish Funders Network, the Foundation for Jewish Camp and M2, The Institute for Experiential Education. She is Lion of Judah in Canada (endowed) and Israel.
As a long-time CHW donor, Shawna has also supported CHW in the past with cooking demonstrations during online events, working with students at our youth villages, and hosting our trip participants for engaging culinary adventures.
Shawna is a graduate of McGill University in Art History where she was honoured for her commitment to leadership and volunteerism with the Scarlett Key Award. Trained as a chef, she earned her credentials from the Natural Gourmet Cooking School and the Institute of Culinary Education, both in New York. She is the author of the cookbook Panache and dedicated proceeds of sales to the Jewish General Hospital, Montreal.
Shawna is married to Todd and the mother of Zachary (married to Philippa), Andrew and Nathaniel.
