Rooted in historical events, Memories of Things to Come is a novel of endurance, faith, and the quiet heroism of ordinary people caught in history’s turning.
About the Book
A Jewish boy fleeing revolution. Seven years of exile. A clandestine journey that could cost everything.
When Ethiopia collapses into violent upheaval in 1974, fifteen-year-old Ami is forced to run for his life. Caught in the wrong political faction and marked for death, he escapes alone to Israel—leaving his family behind.
In Israel, Ami grows into adulthood in a country that offers safety but is also a challenge. He learns to survive in a modern society far removed from the world he left behind, while the fate of his family remains uncertain.
Seven years later, as famine and terror tighten their grip on Ethiopia, Ami makes an impossible choice. He will go back—and he will not return alone. He will lead his family, and hundreds of other Ethiopian Jews, on a clandestine flight toward Sudan.
The journey through mountains, forest, and desert is only the beginning. In the refugee camp of Um Rakuba, thousands wait in hunger and fear for a rescue that may never come. Amid disease and exhaustion, Ami must keep people moving, keep hope alive, and make decisions no one should have to make.
